Preparing for Your Cruise

Q: On the day our cruise begins, when will we be able to board the ship?

A: For a carefree boarding process, we strongly recommend that Guests complete their Online Check-In ahead of time and arrive during their designated Port Arrival Time. Guests who did not have an opportunity to complete their Online Check-In in advance or do not have a Port Arrival Time should plan to arrive after 2:00 PM. During your designated Port Arrival Time, representatives will verify your citizenship documentation and complete your check in. Guests will then be called by Boarding Groups to embark the ship. Please note that Boarding Group times may vary from Port Arrival Times. Guests who arrive prior to their Port Arrival Time will be asked to wait to enter the cruise terminal until their scheduled time. Be aware that, depending on location, there is no or limited seating or shelter from weather conditions outside the terminal.

Please note: Plan your arrival to ensure you will be able to complete your registration and board the ship prior to the Guest Onboard Time listed on your confirmation. Guests arriving after that time may be refused boarding.

Q: I’ve heard that I can schedule a Disney character to call me on the telephone before we leave home for our cruise vacation. What is this and how does it work?

A: Character Calls—complimentary, pre-recorded phone calls from select Disney characters wishing you well on your sailing—are a fun way to get the entire family excited about an approaching Disney cruise vacation. After you’ve booked your cruise, visit My Reservations under My Disney Cruise and select “Request Call” beside the Free Character Call header. This link will take you to a site where you can choose a Disney character, enter your phone number, schedule a call time and provide additional information for your Character Call. You will also have the opportunity to read about the current call policies and get answers to common questions, including what to do if you miss your call.

Please note, Guests must be 18 years of age to request a call and there is a limit of 2 calls per reservation. Character calls are available to residents of the United States, Canada (except Quebec) and the United Kingdom.

Q: Will I need to carry cash, credit cards or foreign currency with me on my cruise?

A: During the time you are on the ship, you will not need to use cash or a credit card for each purchase—all incidentals, purchases and services may be charged to your stateroom folio. In port, you may wish to carry cash or a credit card to buy snacks and souvenirs.

Before Your Vacation
To help ensure you won't have any issues using your card, please remember to contact your credit or debit card company to let them know you will be traveling out of your home country.

Onboard the Ship
All shipboard transactions are handled in a convenient, cash-free way in US currency. Purchases (such as beverages, merchandise, photography and gratuities) and services (including spa and salon, medical and laundry) will be charged to your stateroom folio.

When completing your online check-in before your cruise, you may provide any of the credit cards listed below to charge shipboard purchases to your stateroom folio:

  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • Disney Visa Credit Card
  • American Express
  • Discover Credit Card
  • Diners Club International
  • Japanese Credit Bureau

Please note that credit cards issued from non-US banks may incur a foreign transaction fee and be subject to currency conversion rates when used to pay your onboard account balance. If using a credit card issued from a non-US bank, we recommend notifying your bank of your travels before boarding the ship to prevent any delays with transaction approvals.

All charges must be settled before leaving the ship. You may use the credit card on file or pay with cash, debit card, Disney Gift Card or American Express Travelers Cheques denominated in US dollars (USD). We recommend using a credit card rather than a debit card when possible, to avoid any temporary holds that your financial institution may place on your debit card account. For those planning to settle their stateroom folio charges in cash, note that exchange rates on the ship are subject to change without notice and may be different than those offered by other financial institutions. We recommend exchanging to USD prior to your voyage.

In Ports of Call
In The Bahamas and the Caribbean, US Dollars and major credit cards are accepted almost everywhere. For European and Australia and New Zealand cruises, major credit cards (preferably Mastercard and VISA) with embedded chips are accepted by most merchants in our ports of call. US dollars or American Express Travelers Cheques in USD are the preferable choice for foreign currency exchange in local currency.

For your convenience, when the ship is sailing in Europe, euros (in limited amounts) will also be available for exchange at Guest Services on board the ship.

Q: What if I don’t receive my Guest Travel Booklet or Luggage Tag Folder prior to my cruise?

A: If you do not receive your Guest Travel Booklet or Luggage Tag Folder prior to your cruise, don’t worry: the necessary forms are available via the My Online Check-In option on our website. If you are not able to access My Online Check-In, the forms are also available at your departure port. Additionally, the porters will have luggage tags available to place on your luggage.

Q: When should I attach my Disney Cruise Line luggage tags to my baggage?

A: Please refer to the Guest Travel Booklet or Luggage Tag Folder for information about when your Disney Cruise Line luggage tags should be placed on your bags. However, in general, luggage tags should be attached to your baggage prior to making your way to the cruise terminal.

Q: Does Disney Cruise Line provide luggage tags for my cruise?

A: Yes, 2 Disney Cruise Line luggage tags for each person in your traveling party will be included in the Guest Travel Booklet or Luggage Tag Folder you’ll receive in the mail prior to sailing. These luggage tags will include your name, ship name, stateroom number, sail date and reservation number. Please refer to this information about when the luggage tags should be placed on your bags.

Q: What kinds of clothing, toiletries or other items should I pack for my cruise?

A: As a general guide, bring clothing you would take on a vacation to the itinerary you’re on, such as the Caribbean, Europe or The Bahamas.

You can pack a little lighter, because there is a hair dryer in every stateroom as well as shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and soap.

Important Items Be sure to carry all proof of citizenship, required documents, your method of payment, prescription medications (in original containers) and any valuable items with you.

Clothing Tropical itineraries or summer travel – Bring lightweight clothing such as shorts, slacks, sundresses, jeans and short-sleeved or sleeveless tops.

Northern itineraries or winter travel – Pack warmer clothing, including a light jacket, sweatshirt or sweater, and socks.

Footwear – You may want to do some walking during port stops, so be sure to pack comfortable shoes like boat shoes, sandals or athletic shoes.

Sun wear – Swimsuits, hats or visors and sunglasses are a must for most of our itineraries. Also pack a high-SPF waterproof sunscreen if you plan to be at the pool or outdoors.

Costumes – During themed cruises and onboard celebrations like Pirate Night, Guests are invited to dress in costume. We value safety and good judgment and ask Guests to choose costumes that are family friendly, not obstructive, objectionable, offensive or violent. To avoid any disappointment or delay in the boarding process, please refrain from bringing toys or props that resemble guns, knives or other related implements. Masks that completely cover a person’s face may only be worn when standing still at character photo locations and must be carried when moving around the ship. Guests may dress as their favorite character, but may not pose for pictures or sign autographs. Guests that fail to comply with these guidelines may be removed from events unless their costume can be modified.

Dressy attire – If you are planning to dine at Palo, Palo Steakhouse, Enchanté or Remy during your cruise, be sure to pack appropriate clothing for these more formal, adults-only dining experiences.

Other Items Corrective lenses – If you wear prescription glasses or contact lenses, be sure to pack spare glasses or extra contacts.

Stroller – We recommend you bring your own stroller. However a limited number of strollers are available for rent on board.

Golf clubs – If you plan to golf at any of the port stops, you are welcome to bring your clubs. Please note that clubs do not count against your 2-bag limit, but you will need to store them in your stateroom.

Q: What are the benefits of acquiring and carrying a passport?

A: Not all Disney Cruise itineraries require that you travel with a passport. However, for added security we recommend that you carry a valid passport with you.

In addition to providing you and your family with approved identification for boarding the ship, having a passport prepares you to travel to any destination should the need arise.

In the unlikely event that you experience an emergency during your cruise that requires you to fly home from a foreign port, your passport allows you to board the flight without delay.

Q: What is My Reservations and how do I use it?

A: Once you book your cruise, log in to your MyDisney account and go to My Disney Cruise or My Reservations to see the details of your cruise plans unfold. In one handy place, you can find onboard activities for your cruise, see which documents you need, get a handy packing list?even check in online.

Just think of My Reservations as your personal Disney cruise dashboard!

Q: What is the most secure way to carry and store valuables or medications during my cruise?

A: Always be cautious when carrying cash, credit cards, jewelry, cameras, personal electronics and medications. We encourage you to carry these belongings, along with any other items required for check-in or embarkation, in a day bag. Once on board, you’ll be able to store important items in your stateroom safe.

Please do not pack items of value in luggage that will not be with you at all times, such as bags checked with an airline or Disney Cruise Line luggage service. Please note that Disney Cruise Line is not responsible for lost personal items.

Q: Do I need to bring my child's stroller, or are there strollers on board I can use?

A: We encourage you to bring your own stroller, as the ship has a very limited number of strollers available on a first-come basis.

For ease of carrying and maneuvering your stroller on board, as well as for less-bulky storage, we recommend you bring a lightweight, foldable stroller.

Please note: safety regulations require all Guest equipment—including wheelchairs, electric mobility scooters and strollers—be stored inside Guest staterooms when not in use. Parking these devices in corridors or stairwell landings is strictly prohibited.

Once on board, contact Guest Services if you need to find an alternate parking location.

Q: My family and I are booked on 2 consecutive cruises. How do we go from one cruise to the other?

A: Guests sailing on back-to-back cruises will be provided with information about debarkation—and subsequent embarkation—on board the ship. Please visit the Guest Services Desk on Deck 3, Midship for specific instructions.

Keep in mind, you may be required to leave the ship during normal debarkation hours with your luggage in tow, and check in again at the terminal prior to the start of your second cruise.

Q: What personal documents—including proof of citizenship—do I need to bring?

A: In order to board the ship at the start of a cruise, all Guests must provide a valid government-issued photo ID. For certain international itineraries, you will also need to present a valid passport and travel visa.

Passports
If needed for your itinerary, Disney Cruise Line requests that you provide your passport number at least 30 to 40 days prior to the start of your vacation. Simply add the details to the Guest Information Form found in My Online Check-In.

Please note: All travelers, including U.S. Citizens and all foreign nationals, are required to have a valid passport to enter or re-enter the United States by air.

Other Travel Documents
When you arrive at the port terminal, additional documents are required to start your cruise. Save time by using My Online Check-In to complete these documents in advance. Please be sure to bring the completed Online Check-In Port Arrival Form with you to the ship.

Q: Can visitors accompany me at the port terminal or board the ship prior to sailing?

Q: Q. What type of electrical outlet is available in my stateroom and what is the voltage limit?

A: A. All staterooms are equipped with multiple 110V outlets, which are standard in the U.S. and Canada. Staterooms on board Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy are equipped with a combination of 110V and 220 outlets (European).

Small electrical appliances such as electric shavers, curling irons and flat irons with standard North American plugs will function on board. 110V items should not exceed 1500W and 220V items should not exceed 2000W. Because space is limited, we recommend you make reservations in advance of embarkation. We can also plan your ground transportation from local airports to the embarkation port and get you back to the airport at the end of your cruise.

Q: Why do I need to provide the birthdates for each member of my travel party?

A: Disney Cruise Line is required to provide birthdates and other personal information for each Guest regardless of age to U.S. Customs and Border Protection prior to departure.

We also use this information to ensure the best possible experience for every Guest, like determining eligibility for age-specific onboard venues and activities as well as Port Adventures excursions.

When you book your stateroom you will be required to provide the name, address, phone number and date of birth for each Guest in your travel party.

Q: Why do I need a reservation ticket to meet certain Characters during my cruise?

A: Reservation tickets for select Character Greetings are required to reduce the overall wait time and help you enjoy your cruise at a more relaxed pace. Additional Character appearances that do not require a ticket are available throughout your cruise.

Q: How will I use my reservation confirmation number?
