Explore the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, also known as the Beijing Tian Tan. This marvellous structure is considered a masterpiece among Chinese ancient sacrificial buildings. A symbol of peace and a representation of the methodical Confucian design, this 600-year-old, 267-hectare temple is built by the Yongle Emperor, the Ming Dynasty builder of the Forbidden City. It was a stage for important rituals, and has intricate details that include variations of the number 9 (represents the emperor). In the complex you'll see a number of religious buildings once visited by the emperors of the Qing and Ming dynasty. You can visit the Hall of Prayer of Good Harvests, the Circular Mound Altar, Imperial Vault of Heaven, and more.
